SAS issues

Many of you experienced some difficulty with SAS, not reading the data file that was saved on a remote desktop. You can try to type the data right in the program instead. Be sure to comment out the INFILE line.

Also, a student pointed out to me during my office hour today that the RTF output did not show the histogram for question 1. I am still not sure why that happened. My apology for not noticing that before. I will try to figure it out. For now, you can use the histogram from pdf output. You may have to take a snap shot of the histogram in order to copy it to a Word document. To do that, go to
Tools->Select & Zoom->Snap Shot.

Don't stress out too much about the SAS part. Just try to get familiar with SAS for now.

  1. It also does not copy from Remote Desktop PDF to Word unless you open up Word through the Remote Desktop. But for some reason, Word copies from my computer to the Remote Desktop. Complicated at first, but I think I've got it figured out. Just takes a lot of e-mailing to myself!

  2. My experience is:
    - Remote Desktop Control: I've been unable to connect, although I installed the CISCO software to do so. I'm not able to find out the path. Where can I find the "All programs" quoted in the video you've sent to us?
    - I've been able to remote connect with SAS, but sometimes the program doesn't start because it is not able to connect with a remote server. As I live in Spain (7 hours ahead from you), working in the morning is not a problem but in the evening is for me not easy to connect even during the weekend (as nowadays). Do you have any suggestion?
    Thank you

  3. Using SAS from my home computer via OnDemand for Academics is very very slow, probably due to delays sending all data to SAS servers in North Carolina, waiting for access time on the server, and sending data back to my computer. Plus, SAS will not read data files from my computer - no matter what I try. It's easier and faster to use RDP to log into the ISU network and terminal servers. There is only a minimal delay in SAS, and it will read data files from the RDP desktop (at least for me).

  4. @ acallen: Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) is a standard program in Windows XP and Windows 7. In XP, get to it by Start - Programs - Accessories - Remote Desktop Connection. In Windows 7 - Menu - All Programs - Accessories - Remote Desktop Connection. Before you can connect, you must configure the connection. Directions for doing so are on ISU IT site. Successfully using RDP requires a stable broadband internet connection that will not drop your connection. It may always be difficult to maintain good connectivity from Spain to here.

  5. Thanks for the information Dave. We don't fully understand this until someone share their experience logging in from other states or other countries. I will share the info with our Tech Support Team.
